Poor information compounds the Thameslink problems

It’s amazing how, at the times of disruption when customers need accurate, up to date and actionable information, the official online information is so abysmal and confusing.

  • Thameslink say they are running an amended timetable, but there’s no mention of buses replacing Bat & Ball trains, just generic hand-wringing stuff saying it’s all a massive challenge and they really don’t have a clue. In a further indication of how Thameslink are clueless about what people want to know, this information is initially hidden when you visit the web page, and you have to click again to display it (archive of page).
  • The National Rail Journey Planner gives weird results, showing all Bat & Ball rail services operating today but many having replacement buses leaving Sevenoaks at exactly the same times.  At 2322 tonight it shows that two trains (one to Blackfriars, one to Finsbury Park) plus one bus will all depart simultaneously !  If you miss them, it says you can catch a train to Orpington at 2335, change and go to Bromley South, change and go to Otford and then catch a bus to Bat & Ball.  The journey will take 66 minutes (it’s quicker to walk) and cost £14.60 !

By contrast a good straightforward source of information is RealTimeTrains which shows (archive) that all rail services to Bat & Ball have operated so far today.  Click on the ID number (e.g. 9Y22) to see the full journey details of any given train.
