Taking the train this Easter? You might want to think again …

There are a lot of engineering works over the Easter period affecting Sevenoaks. If you were thinking of taking the train, either towards London or towards the coast, you will need to plan your journey carefully and allow time for less frequent services and for diversions.

  • On Friday and Saturday there are no trains to Charing Cross, Waterloo East, London Bridge or Cannon Street. From Sevenoaks there are just two fast trains an hour to London at xx07 and xx37, and they go to Victoria. There are also two slow trains an hour to Victoria and two slow trains an hour to Blackfriars.
  • On Friday, Saturday and Sunday there are no trains from Sevenoaks towards Tonbridge. There’s a rail replacement bus service instead.
  • On Sunday and Monday there are no trains to Cannon Street.

In the presentations on the new Franchise the Department for Transport say that they want to “encourage greater use of classic mainline and high speed network outside peak” by “improved marketing and branding of attractions across the network“. Fewer services and rail replacement buses hardly seems the way to encourage people to travel by train over a long weekend.
