The Sevenoaks Rail Travellers Association has been working with Southeastern, and with other interested parties such as the Sevenoaks Cycle Forum, on a series of improvements to facilities at the station. This follows a walk-round the station with David Statham earlier in the year.
At a meeting on Monday 29 June Southeastern confirmed that over the next few months we should see:
- new bike racks to an improved and safer design installed by September
- a new taxi shelter which can accommodate a longer queue
- a second ticket vending machine to expand ticketing capacity on the west (Kippington) side of the station – a long-standing demand of the Association
- new motorcycle parking under the arch, with signage to clear motorbikes from the cycle parking area
- new markings on the station roadway to help pedestrians.
Users of the station will also have seen that Southeastern have agreed to our suggestion to simplify the unnecessary cattle-pen for the automatic ticket machine queue and re-cycle some of the barriers to provide a queuing guide for the manned ticket windows. And at long last the toilets seem to be working!
