We all moan about delays and cancellations on the railway network; here is a list of incidents that would have affected services in our area: –
25 March 2016 – A defective rail between Orpington and Sevenoaks delayed early afternoon services and some services terminated short of their destination or were diverted via Bat & Ball. There were also power supply problems causing delays and cancellations on the Hastings line.
28 March 2016 – High winds overnight and during the morning caused major disruption to Southeastern services due to trees and other items being blown on to the lines.
30 March 2016 – A Thameslink train bound for Sevenoaks failed at Blackfriars causing half hour delays to following services.
1 April 2016 – A person was hit by a train mid-afternoon between Grove Park and Hither Green. All lines were closed for about an hour and mainline services were diverted to Victoria.
4 April 2016 – Morning commuter services were disrupted by power supply problems at Grove Park and a points failure at Lewisham. There were no late services between Sittingbourne and Sheerness due to a signal failure.
5 April 2016 – Signal problems between Sittingbourne and Sheerness caused problems from mid-morning to early evening.
8 April 2016 – Trains failed at New Cross and New Hythe causing delays. A body was found in the early morning at Kent House.
12 April 2016 – A Thameslink train bound for Brighton delayed services for about an hour due to problems experienced whilst trying to change from AC to DC power supply at City Thameslink.
19 April 2016 – An early morning Gillingham to Dover service hit a beer keg that was on the line at Canterbury; hopefully it was empty!
21 April 2016 – Signalling problems for about five hours from 09.15 prevented trains bound for London calling at Greenwich. Cancellations and late running continued during the rest of the afternoon.
22 April 2016 – Signalling problems on the high speed line between Ashford International and Ebbsfleet International disrupted services in the afternoon
23 April 2016 – Signalling problems in the King’s Ferry Bridge area resulted in no service for about twelve hours between Sittingbourne and Sheerness.
26 April 2016 – An early morning train failure at New Eltham delayed services.
2 May 2016 – Early morning services were cancelled after a body was found on the line near Stone Crossing. Late morning a points failure stopped services running from Strood to Rochester. This evening a person was hit by a train near Hildenborough which disrupted services.
4 May 2016 – Problems with the King’s Ferry Bridge resulted in cancellations of afternoon services between Sittingbourne and Sheerness.
6 May 2016 – Severe delays through Barnehurst in the evening due to a failed train.
8 May 2016 – A train failed at Otford delaying evening services.
13 May 2016 – Mid-afternoon a train failed at Deptford. Trains were diverted via Lewisham for about one and a half hours.
17 May 2016 – Late morning the line was blocked for around an hour between Rochester and Stroud due to a failed train.
19 May 2016 – Early morning a High Speed Train failed at Chilham blocking the line for an hour. Just before lunchtime Charing Cross station was evacuated for just over a half hour due to false fire alarm. Train cancellations were experienced during the rest of the afternoon. At about 12.30 a man fell under a train at Chatham Station. Services were cancelled until about 15.00 and were disrupted until close of service.
