We have no evidence for that, Minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Many of our supporters have been complaining about the &#8220;concrete&#8221; seats in the new Thameslink trains.<\/p>\n<p>In the House of Commons the Rail Minister <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theyworkforyou.com\/debates\/?id=2018-03-01a.959.1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">claimed<\/a> &#8220;seats normally become more comfortable over time through use&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>We <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whatdotheyknow.com\/request\/evidence_of_comfort_of_train_sea#outgoing-744193\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">used<\/a> the Freedom of Information Act to seek the DfT&#8217;s research or factual evidence used to make this assertion. It turns out the <a href=\"https:\/\/srta.org.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/F0015853-extract.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DfT do not actually hold any such evidence at all!<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Indeed it turns out that there&#8217;s no evidence for the statement in the wider rail industry either &#8211; and the Rail Safety and Standards Board has actually <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rssb.co.uk\/industry-news\/train-seat-design-needs-more-scientific-approach\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called for research into the subject<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Many of our supporters have been complaining about the &#8220;concrete&#8221; seats in the new Thameslink trains.
